2023 MLS Regular Season: Chicago Fire 4-1 Inter Miami
The South Florida side's winless run across all competitions without Lionel Messi stretched to four games after suffering a midweek road rout
Inter Miami has gone from one of the hottest teams in MLS to one that is catching hypothermia at the worst possible time.
Xherdan Shaqiri and Maren Haile-Selassie each bagged a brac to doom Inter Miami to a 4-1 road rout at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois, on Wednesday night. The South Florida side was on level terms at 1-1 after 53 minutes thanks to an equalizing penalty from Josef Martinez, but missed a pair of quality chances to take the lead before coming undone in the fourth straight winless match across all competitions without superstar Lionel Messi.
The result dropped Inter Miami back into 14th place in the Eastern Conference with a 9-6-16 record. The Herons are five points below the playoff line with three games left in the regular season.
The first of those three final matches takes place on Saturday night, with Inter Miami hosting FC Cincinnati at Drv Pnk Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
