2023 MLS Regular Season: Inter Miami 4-0 Toronto FC
Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba mysteriously exited in the first half, but the South Florida side bounced back all the same with a lopsided victory
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Inter Miami returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion on Wednesday, but only after seeing stars Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba leave the game early under mysterious conditions.
Messi and Alba were substituted three minutes apart in the first half, but that did not stop Inter Miami from posting a 4-0 home victory over Toronto FC. Three different players found the back of the net for the South Florida side at Drv Pnk Stadium, with substitute Robert Taylor leading the way with a brace and an assist while Facundo Farias netted the game-winner with a volleyed golazo.
The shutout win improved Inter Miami to 9-4-15 on the season, moving the team into 13th place in the Eastern Conference. Tata Martino’s men sit five points below the playoff line with six games left in the campaign.
Inter Miami returns to action on Sunday night, visiting rival Orlando City at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida, in the latest edition of the Sunshine Clasico.
