2023 MLS Regular Season: Inter Miami 3-2 Sporting Kansas City
The Lionel Messi-less South Florida side erased an early deficit and then held on for a narrow victory that included a Leonardo Campana brace
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Inter Miami’s push for the postseason continued with yet another victory on Saturday, and this time the team did not need any Lionel Messi magic to pick up the three points.
A Messi-less Inter Miami kept its unbeaten ways going on Saturday night after erasing an early deficit and then holding on to prevail, 3-2, at home in a first-ever match vs. Sporting Kansas City. Leonardo Campana led the way with a brace that gave Inter Miami a 2-1 halftime lead, but it was Facundo Farias’ tally at the hour-mark that stood as the winner following an Alan Pulido strike in the 78th minute that made for a nervy finish.
The narrow triumph improved the South Florida side to 8-4-14 on the season, leaving Inter Miami in 14th place of the Eastern Conference but moving the team to within six points of the final playoff spot. Inter Miami has not lost in its last 12 matches across all competitions.
The Herons are expected to have Messi back from international duty for their next game against Atlanta United, which will take place on the turf field at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sept. 16.
