Inter Miami is heading into the international window with more momentum and another three points after a statement road win vs. one of the league’s top teams.
Lionel Messi dished out two assists and that helped pace Inter Miami to a 3-1 victory over LAFC at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Messi’s first helper set up Jordi Alba’s 51st-minute winner while the other to substitute Leonardo Campana late on iced the match.
The South Florida side stayed in 14th place in the Eastern Conference despite the triumph, but moved to within eight points of the final playoff spot with nine matches remaining in the regular season. Inter Miami’s record is now 7-4-14, with the team unbeaten in all competitions since Messi’s arrival.
Tata Martino’s men will next have to make do without Messi and several others, as Inter Miami plays through the international window with a home game against Sporting Kansas City at Drv Pnk Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Sept. 9.
