2023 MLS Regular Season: New York City FC 1-0 Inter Miami
A first-half own goal from Christopher McVey doomed the South Florida side to a road loss that also included a concerning Gregore injury
Inter Miami is perfect no more, and there are real injury concerns about captain Gregore.
Familiar road woes reappeared for Inter Miami on Saturday night, as the South Florida side was undone by a Christopher McVey own goal in a 1-0 road loss to New York City FC.
The decisive goal at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York, came in the 36th minute after McVey misplayed an NYCFC free kick by bundling the ball into the Inter Miami net via an awkward clearance attempt.
Making matters worse for Phil Neville’s team was the loss of Gregore, who exited the Eastern Conference bout in the 73rd minute in tears and with a noticeable limp after receiving a crunching late challenge from former Inter Miami attacker Matias Pellegrini.
La Rosanegra will aim to bounce back on March 18, continuing this current two-game road swing with a visit to Toronto FC.
