2023 U.S. Open Cup: Inter Miami 1-0 Charleston Battery
A 48th-minute own goal saw La Rosanegra advance to the tournament's Round of 16 for the second straight year
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Inter Miami may not have won a whole lot of style points on Tuesday, but the team won where it mattered most.
A shuffled Inter Miami side used a second-half own goal from Juan Sebastian Palma to defeat the Charleston Battery, 1-0, in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 on Tuesday night.
The lone goal at Drv Pnk Stadium came three minutes after halftime, with a cross from Harvey Neville cleared off Juan Sebastian Palma’s face for a fortuitous deflection that pushed the South Florida side to the tournament’s Round of 16 for the second straight year.
Inter Miami, which is now unbeaten in four straight matches across all competitions, continues a busy stretch of three games in eight days when the team welcomes the New England Revolution to town on Saturday.
