Atlanta United 1-0 Inter Miami
A Josef Martinez penalty proved the difference as the Herons lost for the third straight game
ATLANTA — Inter Miami’s playoff chances just took another hit.
A second-half penalty from Josef Martinez handed Inter Miami its third straight defeat, a 1-0 road loss to Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Wednesday night. The result left the South Florida side on 32 points, six shy of the red line in the Eastern Conference with eight games to go in the season.
Martinez’s decisive goal came from the spot in the 78th minute after Leandro Gonzalez Pirez was whistled for a handball. The Atlanta United striker converted with a cool finish to the right while Inter Miami goalkeeper Nick Marsman dove the other way.
