FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Inter Miami was on its way to a preseason victory, but a second-half brace and a late blunder changed that.
Gonzalo Higuain scored his first goal of the 2022 preseason, but it was not enough to avoid a 2-1 loss to CF Montreal on Friday evening. Ivy Brisma found the back of the net twice after halftime for the Canadian side, including on an 89th-minute strike that goalkeeper Drake Callender got his hands to before spilling the ball over the goal line.
Higuain had opened the scoring in the closed-door exhibition played at the South Florida side’s training facility, finishing an Ariel Lassiter feed five minutes before halftime. Brisma, however, found the equalizer in the 66th minute before authoring the winner in the dying seconds.
Inter Miami is now 1-0-3 in the 2022 preseason, and next plays the Columbus Crew in the Carolina Challenge Cup.
