EXCLUSIVE: Gregore discusses Inter Miami's rumored Brazilian transfer targets Mota and Veiga
The team captain shared some insight into midfield duo Jean Mota and Raphael Veiga
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — If there is one player on the Inter Miami roster who is familiar with the rumored Brazilian transfer targets, it is none other than compatriot and team captain Gregore.
Reports out of Brazil last week linked Inter Miami with moves for Jean Mota of Santos and Palmeiras’ Raphael Veiga. Officials on the South Florida side have not commented on the rumors to this point, but Gregore offered some insight into the two midfielders that he competed with earlier in his career in an exclusive interview with Miami Total Futbol.
“I know Jean more from a personal standpoint,” Gregore told Miami Total Futbol in Portuguese. “We worked together at Santos. He is a very good player and has a lot of quality, and so does Raphael Veiga who I played against a lot. Both players have lots of quality, but I know Jean more and he is a good person, too.”
Gregore, the 27-year-old defensive midfielder who arrived at Inter Miami this year and has arguably been the team’s best player this season, also described former teammate Mota’s player profile in a bit more detail.
“When I played with Jean, he was a No. 8 who helps a lot with the defensive marking, and who also has a lot of quality to get forward” said Gregore. “He has a good shot from outside the penalty area, and in some games he played as a left back. He has a lot of quality to help out.”
Gregore added that he does not know whether there are talks between the Brazilian duo and Inter Miami. Mota, 28, and attacking midfielder Veiga, 26, reportedly have contracts with their current clubs that run past the MLS offseason this winter.
The Herons’ midfield linchpin stated, however, that he thinks both players could provide a boost if they were added to the roster.
“I do not know their contractual details,” said Gregore, “but I think they both would help a lot if they came.”
Gregore and 10th-placed Inter Miami will attempt to stay alive in the postseason race in the Eastern Conference on Wednesday night when they visit Atlanta United.
