Gonzalo Higuain to return, Gregore and Robbie Robinson questionable vs. New York Red Bulls
Gonzalo Higuain will be back for Friday's home game vs. the New York Red Bulls, but Robbie Robinson and captain Gregore might miss out
Inter Miami will welcome back one important player to the team on Friday, but might be without two others.
A home game with the New York Red Bulls is on the cards for Inter Miami, and the short turnaround between this upcoming match and the last one that was played on Tuesday away to Toronto FC could lead to some more lineup changes. Herons head coach Phil Neville said on Thursday that while star striker Gonzalo Higuain will be back after sitting out the 1-0 road win earlier in the week, both Gregore and Robbie Robinson are “massive doubts.”
With regards to Gregore, Neville stated the Brazilian midfielder has been dealing with “niggles for the last three or four weeks” that he has not been able to
“The short turnaround of time has been difficult for him to recover and getting the right amount of training inside of him,” said Neville. “We recovered him today and we are going to take it right to the very last minute to see whether Gregore will make the starting XI. Ultimately, we want him to play.”
As for Robinson, Neville stated that the team does not want to overload the young winger. Robinson has started in five of the team’s six games since Aug. 18 and came off the bench in the other one.
“Robbie played only his second full 90 minutes in professional football on Tuesday night,” said Neville. “He played on Saturday, he played the week before, and he is a boy that we want to maintain at the absolute top level of physical fitness. We had the problems at the start of the season with his hamstrings and etc., and we want to make sure that we are doing the right things.
“He is feeling tired today and just need to make sure that he is right for the game so we recovered him today. He is a boy that wants to play, but he is also a boy that we need to protect.”
Higuain, meanwhile, is good to go after being rested on Tuesday.
“Gonzalo will be back for the game tomorrow,” said Neville. “Gonzalo has come through training (with) no problems this morning.”
