Inter Miami 1-0 Toronto FC
The South Florida side moved above the playoff line after using a stoppage-time penalty from Christian Makoun to top 10-man Toronto FC
The heart-stopping Herons have done it again, and they have moved above the playoff line at last as a result.
Inter Miami won yet again on Tuesday night, going on the road and defeating 10-man Toronto FC, 1-0, in a rollercoaster affair that was decided by a stoppage-time penalty from unexpected hero Christian Makoun. The centerback drew the decisive spot kick seconds earlier, and made no mistake on his take by firing low and to the right to score his first MLS goal.
The result at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, pushed the South Florida side into fifth place in the Eastern Conference while extending Inter Miamiβs current unbeaten run to six games. The team has also posted four straight shutouts.
The match was an eventful one. Inter Miami captain Gregore gave up a penalty and was sent off in the first half before VAR overturned the decision due to a Toronto FC offside. The home side then lost centerback Kemar Lawrence to a red card in the 37th minute for denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Toronto FC also thought it scored late on a shot that the Canadian team argued had crossed the goal line. The referees said no, however, and then Makoun came up with the late goods.
