Inter Miami 2-1 Toronto FC
The South Florida side combined a pair of first-half goals with strong defending to pick up a narrow win that pushed the team into fifth place
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Inter Miami’s playoff hopes received another significant boost on Saturday, with the team slowing down one of the hottest attacks in MLS en route to posting a narrow victory.
First-half goals from Jean Mota and Ariel Lassiter combined with a strong defensive showing propelled Inter Miami to a 2-1 victory over Toronto FC at Drv Pnk Stadium on Saturday night. Lassiter’s winner came just before halftime off a well-worked set piece, with the South Florida side’s defense standing tall from there.
Inter Miami struck first in the 24th minute via a Jean Mota blast from distance that led to a howler from Toronto FC goalkeeper Alex Bono. Lorenzo Insigne equalized four minutes later with a pinpoint volley, but Lassiter reclaimed the lead for good after finishing off a feed from Damion Lowe.
The triumph moved Inter Miami back above the playoff line and into fifth place in the Eastern Conference, with the Herons now on 36 points from 26 matches.
