Sources: Inter Miami eyeing South American talents Leonardo Campana, Emerson Rodriguez
The South Florida side is in talks with the Ecuadorean international striker and Under-20 Colombia national team winger
Inter Miami’s anemic attack may soon get a lift via a pair of young South American talents.
Sources have told Miami Total Futbol that Inter Miami is eyeing adding Ecuadorean international Leonardo Campana and Under-20 Colombia national team player Emerson Rodriguez. The South Florida side is currently in conversations with the two South Americans, who could soon join preseason preparations.
Campana, 21, is a striker who made his debut with Ecuador’s senior national team back in 2019 and most recently played for Swiss club Grasshopper via a loan from English outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers. He currently has six starts and three goals in 14 appearances in Switzerland’s first division and has earned 10 caps for his country.
The 21-year-old Rodriguez was last with Millonarios in his native country. He is a wide player that can line up on either flank, though he tends to play on the right more so than the left. The young Colombian made 39 appearances for Millonarios last year, starting 34 times while scoring five goals.
If signed, both players would provide a boost to an Inter Miami attacking corps that was very inconsistent in 2021. The South Florida side finished with just 36 goals scored — which was tied for second-worst in all of MLS — en route to finishing in 11th place in the Eastern Conference and missing the playoffs.
The Herons will officially start preseason training camp on Jan. 17.
