Inter Miami Player Ratings: Higuain, Makoun, Gonzalez Pirez stand tallest in win over Fire
Several players turned in good performances in Inter Miami's 3-2 win vs. the Chicago Fire
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Inter Miami got back to winning ways on Wednesday, and several players impressed in the process.
Inter Miami recorded its fifth victory of the season with a 3-2 home triumph over the Chicago Fire, using a late Rodolfo Pizarro goal to prevail. Pizarro grabbed much of the spotlight because of is game-winning tally, but a number of other Herons also showed well in the match at Drv Pnk Stadium.
Whether it was Gonzalo Higuain having a hand in all three Inter Miami goals or Christian Makoun snuffing out attacks at the back, multiple players delivered as the South Florida side captured three more points.
Here are the Inter Miami Player Ratings after Wednesday’s victory:
Nick Marsman (4.5) — Should have done better on the first-half equalizer, but was otherwise solid if unspectacular.
Lewis Morgan (6.5) — Hit a delightful ball to help initiate the sequence leading to the opener, and was tactically sound as the right wingback.
Leandro Gonzalez Pirez (7.5) — Good with the ball both in terms of dribbling forward and passing while also overall solid at the back.
Nicolas Figal (5.5) — Involved defensively and hit some good passes, but could have done more on the two goals that were conceded.
Christian Makoun (7.5) — Quietly had a team-high seven defensive interventions in his latest strong showing as the left central defender in the three-centerback look.
Kieran Gibbs (4.5) — Combined well down the left flank, but failed to clear the corner that led to the Fire’s first goal and did not react well after the turnover that resulted in the second.
Gregore (6) — Did plenty of the dirty work in the midfield while also passing decently, though he should have tracked back better on the Fire’s go-ahead strike.
Blaise Matuidi (5) — Faded after committing the ugly turnover that gave the Fire the lead early in the second half, but passed very accurately prior to that.
Indiana Vassilev (5.5) — Was rewarded for his hustle with the opening strike on the rebound and his speed added a threat. Still, he had just 14 touches before coming off.
Gonzalo Higuain (7.5) — His finishing was poor, but he still helped set up all three Inter Miami goals with well-weighted and precise passes that showed his quality.
Robbie Robinson (6) — Made an intelligent run on his goal and was willing to go at defenders without being his sharpest on the dribble in his first game back following a layoff.
Rodolfo Pizarro (6.5) — Finished his late chance wonderfully and provided more attacking ideas after entering, though he only connected on 53.3 percent of his passes.
Brek Shea (5.5) — A professional performance off the bench, as he was reliable on both sides of the ball during his stint.
Victor Ulloa (6) — Few touches, but delivered the ball that set up the winner to continue his recent final-third contributions that have largely flown under the radar.
Julian Carranza (5) — Put in a lot of work on both sides during his 14-minute cameo.
Kelvin Leerdam (N/A) — Came on in stoppage time to help close the game out.
Phil Neville (7) — Trotted out a slightly more attack-minded lineup that started well, and made the right in-game tactical and personnel adjustments after correctly reading how the match was unfolding.
