Inter Miami Player Ratings: Pizarro, Gonzalez Pirez a cut above in convincing win over Toronto FC
Almost every Inter Miami player turned in a very good performance level in the dominant 3-1 victory over Toronto FC
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — You only needed to hear the “Ole!” chants late to get an idea of just how well Inter Miami played on Saturday.
Inter Miami posted the most convincing victory to date in the team’s short existence, defeating overmatched Toronto FC by a 3-1 mark on Saturday night. The historic win at Drv Pnk Stadium saw the in-form South Florida side dictate the tempo practically from start to finish, with almost every player enjoying very good performance levels.
Rodolfo Pizarro was, of course, one of the top contributors after bagging a brace in the dominant display from the Herons, but Leandro Gonzalez Pirez was not far behind with his two-assist outing.
Here are the Inter Miami Player Ratings after Saturday’s impressive home win:
Nick Marsman (6) — Good at coming off his line to cut off passes, but was not overly tested thanks to the solid defending in front of him.
Lewis Morgan (8) — Very active on both sides of the ball, getting forward to create some danger and tracking back to defend indefatigably.
Leandro Gonzalez Pirez (9) — Yet again was pinpoint with his passing from the back in addition to being a rock defensively vs. Toronto FC’s limited attack.
Nicolas Figal (8) — Had a little trouble with some of the runs made in behind, but was otherwise very good with his defensive responsibilities.
Christian Makoun (8.5) — Another strong showing in which he defended very well, passed precisely, and even got forward well on a couple of instances.
Kieran Gibbs (5.5) — Helped create the opener with a good slide to win the ball, but also gave Toronto FC life with an own goal due to a lapse of concentration.
Gregore (7.5) — His usual hard-nosed self in the middle of the park with a game-high six tackles while also completing just over 90 percent of his passes.
Victor Ulloa (7.5) — Clean with his touches, moved the ball quickly and accurately, and did the job defensively in his latest sound shift.
Rodolfo Pizarro (9) — Two goals, two other dangerous shots, lots of effort, and one all-around performance that marked his best in an Inter Miami jersey.
Gonzalo Higuain (6.5) — Got a decent dose of touches, dished out an assist, and put in lots of work without being overly dangerous himself in front of goal.
Robbie Robinson (8) — The left-footed goal he scored was sublimely orchestrated, and his speed caused Toronto FC problems throughout.
Brek Shea (6) — Turned in a solid shift off the bench at left wingback.
Indiana Vassilev (6) — Sharp the few times he got on the ball while also fulfilling his tactical duties to see out the game.
Blaise Matuidi (6.5) — Passed with precision in his late appearance, with his only real blemish being that he ended the two fun “Ole!” chants with mis-hit passes.
Kelvin Leerdam (6) — Defended competently during his quarter-hour on the field.
Julian Carranza (N/A) — Should have been subbed on earlier given the game, but only got a five-minute cameo.
Phil Neville (9) — Bringing Pizarro back into the lineup paid off handsomely, and the team in general looked great vs. an overmatched foe en route to recording the most convincing win in Inter Miami history. If there was one thing to nitpick, it was that he did not bring Carranza on for Higuain early enough.
