Inter Miami Player Ratings vs. Orlando City
Gibbs, Ulloa, Figal lead way in 1-1 draw vs. Orlando City
Inter Miami’s improved run of form continued on Wednesday, and it did so with the team’s first road result vs. in-state rival Orlando City.
Inter Miami extended its unbeaten run to three games with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the Lions at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida. As the scoreline indicates, this was far from an attacking masterpiece from either side. Still, Inter Miami saw several players on the defensive side turn in some pretty good performances, including left wingback and goal-scorer Kieran Gibbs.
Here are the Inter Miami Player Ratings following the midweek stalemate:
Nick Marsman (7) — Continued to show off his good range of passing, made three saves, and was confident when coming off his line to thwart danger.
Victor Ulloa (7.5) — Delivered a sublime game-tying assist in another overall solid display despite playing out of position at right wingback.
Kelvin Leerdam (5.5) — Struggled on set pieces, including on the opener, but all in all was serviceable as a centerback.
Nicolas Figal (8) — Quietly anchored the defense by putting out almost every fire that came his way and passed well, too.
Christian Makoun (7.5) — Also constantly snuffed out opposing attacks while also helping initiate sequences with simple passes.
Kieran Gibbs (7.5) — Took his headed equalizer very well and provided a regular outlet down the left even with some of his touches and passes being off.
Gregore (6.5) — His range and grit was on display in a gritty showing in the middle of the park.
Blaise Matuidi (6.5) — Tactically disciplined and better defensively while passing safe but accurately.
Lewis Morgan (4) — Turned in a lot of defensive work from more central areas, but was subpar with his set-piece delivery and largely a non-factor in the attack.
Gonzalo Higuain (3) — Struggled to find the game and his touches given how isolated he was, a result in part due to how defensive-minded the team was.
Robbie Robinson (6) — Put in some good defensive work while also serving as the biggest attacking threat, coming close to scoring the tying goal on a great solo effort.
Rodolfo Pizarro (6.5) — Found teammates with accurate passes, including in the build-up to the equalizer, and moved about the field freely to both press and show for the ball.
Julian Carranza (6.5) — Provided more energy, pressed well, played a part in setting up the equalizer, and came within inches of having an opportunity to score the winner.
Brek Shea (5) — Defended competently during his 14 minutes on the field.
Indiana Vassilev (N/A) — Had just four touches in his late cameo.
Phil Neville (7) — The defensive game plan was not pretty, but proved effective. His substitutions worked well for the second straight game, too, as Carranza and Pizarro raised the level of the team en route to finding the equalizer.
