Inter Miami reached the halfway points of the season on Saturday, and did so with a loss that ended the team’s franchise-record unbeaten run.
New York City FC handed Inter Miami its first defeat in five matches, using a pair of goals from Valentin Castellanos in the first half of a 2-0 affair at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. Castellanos scored the winner off a well-placed header in the 20th minute before adding an insurance tally from the penalty spot just before halftime.
The away loss cost 12th-placed Inter Miami a chance to move into 10th in the Eastern Conference, and marked the first time the South Florida side suffered a loss since the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of the New England Revolution on July 21.
