Philadelphia Union 2-1 Inter Miami
Gonzalo Higuain scored late on off the bench, but that was not enough for the South Florida side to avoid a narrow home defeat
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Inter Miami has made a habit in recent weeks of grabbing points in the dying minutes, but the team’s latest comeback effort fell just short.
Gonzalo Higuain scored a golazo from distance in the 82nd minute, but that was not enough for Inter Miami to avoid a 2-1 home defeat to the Philadelphia Union at Drv Pnk Stadium on Wednesday night. Higuain gave the South Florida side some life when he cut by a defender and blasted a left-footed effort past Union goalkeeper Andre Blake, but Inter Miami never found an equalizer.
The Union had scored on each side of halftime prior to that, with Daniel Gazdag rifling home a penalty kick in the 26th minute before Burke authored the would-be winner by rising high to head in a curling free kick in the 66th.
The loss dropped Inter Miami to 11th place in the Eastern Conference, with the Herons now holding a 6-9-4 record. Four points separate the team from a playoff spot.
