Portland Timbers 1-0 Inter Miami
A late Timbers goal combined with a controversial decision to wave off an equalizer saw Inter Miami drop a fourth consecutive match
Inter Miami has lost a fourth straight game, but this one came under controversial circumstances.
Julian Carranza had a late equalizer called off for a perceived push and that combined with a goal scored minutes earlier sunk Inter Miami to a 1-0 road loss to the Portland Timbers on Sunday. Jaroslaw Niezgoda delivered the winner a mere seconds after entering the match at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon, rising to head home an 83rd-minute corner from Sebastian Blanco.
Carranza found the back of the net three minutes later with a nodded effort of his own, but head referee Robert Sibiga immediately waved it off due to contact between Carranza and Timbers centerback Dario Zuparic.
The defeat left Inter Miami in 11th place, eight points shy of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with seven games remaining in the season.
