Sources: Inter Miami lands first sponsor for game jerseys
The South Florida side is set to announce a game jersey sponsorship deal on Wednesday, ending a long wait that stretched over multiple years
It took longer than expected, but Inter Miami has finally landed a sponsor for the game jerseys.
Sources have told Miami Total Futbol that Inter Miami has inked the first match jersey sponsorship deal in franchise history, with an announcement scheduled for Wednesday night at Drv Pnk Stadium after the team returns to market following the match away to Toronto FC on Tuesday.
The company that the South Florida side has agreed to terms with remains unknown, but one source said it is believed to be a crypto company.
Inter Miami’s game-day kits have remained bare and without the standard corporate logo emblazoned on the front during the team’s first season and change, but the training tops are currently sponsored by AutoNation. The automotive retailer based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida — the same city Inter Miami plays and trains in — reached a naming-rights deal for the the practice kits and stadium in April of this year.
The lack of a sponsor on the team’s game jerseys has been a source of frustration and criticism for some fans since the expansion season in 2020. Qatar Airways was at one point reported to have agreed to a multi-year pact with Inter Miami, and images of the airline’s branding on the franchise’s inaugural kits even surfaced online. A deal was never officially announced, though.
While this unidentified partner company will be the first major sponsor on the front of Inter Miami’s match jerseys, it follows Baptist Health in having its logo on the team’s uniforms. The healthcare organization had its branding on the sleeves of the game jerseys during the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando, Florida, in summer 2020.
