Sources: Inter Miami looking to add Aime Mabika to roster again under Extreme Hardship rule
The centerback did not travel with Fort Lauderdale CF this weekend, and could again be added to the Inter Miami squad for Saturday's match vs. FC Cincinnati
Inter Miami’s roster is depleted right now due to a number of absences, but one reinforcement could be on the way.
Sources have told Miami Total Futbol that Aime Mabika did not travel with Fort Lauderdale CF ahead of the USL League One side’s season finale away to Toronto FC II on Friday, and that Inter Miami is hoping to again add the centerback to the MLS roster for this Saturday’s home game vs. FC Cincinnati under the MLS Extreme Hardship rule.
Mabika was brought in under similar circumstances earlier this month via use of that regulation, which allows teams to temporarily add players to their squads if there are fewer than 16 outfield players available for selection. He started and went the distance afterwards in his Inter Miami debut, a 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls on Oct. 9.
The 23-year-old central defender is not the only player who stayed behind rather than traveling with Fort Lauderdale CF. Edison Azcona and George Acosta also did not make the trip up to Canada.
The Herons are currently short on players and centerbacks due to several injuries and the suspension of Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, who will miss this weekend’s showdown due to yellow card accumulation. Sources have told Miami Total Futbol that attacker Robbie Robinson is also currently a question mark for Saturday’s game.
Fresh off the first win in seven matches, Inter Miami is trying to close the gap on the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with another victory vs. FC Cincinnati. The South Florida side is currently six points shy of the red line with four games left in the year.
