Sources: Kieran Gibbs rejoins Inter Miami's list of walking wounded
The English left back suffered a hamstring injury during his late cameo in this past weekend's game vs. the Columbus Crew
Kieran Gibbs was getting closer to full fitness, but another injury is forcing him back to the sidelines.
Sources have told Miami Total Futbol that Gibbs has rejoined Inter Miami’s long list of walking wounded after hurting his hamstring in this past Saturday’s 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew. The English defender had made his first appearance of the preseason as a late substitute at left centerback in the opener of the 2022 Carolina Challenge Cup, but suffered the injury during his brief cameo.
It looks like Gibbs tweaked his left hamstring while darting back in the 87th minute on the play that resulted in the Crew’s equalizer. You can see him reach for his leg while walking into the goal immediately after the leveler was scored.
The injury is not only the latest one suffered by the 32-year-old Gibbs since signing with the South Florida side last summer, but also means he is now once again one of several sidelined Inter Miami players. Among the others working their way back to full health are Victor Ulloa, Robbie Robinson, and Mo Adams.
Gibbs had entered preseason at less than 100 percent after undergoing back surgery in the offseason and said last month he was hopeful of returning to peak fitness by the campaign opener on Feb. 26.
According to sources, Inter Miami has summoned four Fort Lauderdale CF players to the first team’s camp in Charleston, South Carolina, to help deal with the current slew of injuries. Modesto Mendez, Ethan Hardin, Romeo Beckham, and Braxton Taghvai-Najib were the players selected.
Inter Miami next faces the Charleston Battery in a friendly on Tuesday night. You can watch the game live on the Herons’ app.
