Sources: Leonardo Campana dealing with right knee injury
The Inter Miami striker missed Tuesday's friendly vs. Barcelona with an injury that the team is listing as "day to day"
If you were wondering why Leonardo Campana was not in uniform for Inter Miami’s friendly vs. FC Barcelona, it is because he is not 100 percent healthy.
Campana missed Inter Miami’s 6-0 pummeling at the hands of Barcelona on Tuesday night due to a right knee injury, sources have told Miami Total Futbol. The 21-year-old striker is being listed as “day to day” by the team, but he is currently wearing a knee brace.
It is unclear right now when Campana sustained the injury. He last started and played 60 minutes in Inter Miami’s riveting 3-2 comeback victory vs. Charlotte FC on Saturday night, a game that marked his 17th start and 20th appearance of the MLS season.
If the Ecuadorean is unavailable for Inter Miami’s next game on Saturday away to New York City FC, Gonzalo Higuain is likely to start. Higuain has come off the bench and scored in each of the South Florida side’s last two league games while also starting in Tuesday’s home friendly vs. Barcelona at Drv Pnk Stadium.
Campana, who is on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, has been head coach Phil Neville’s primary option up top this year. The goal-scorer has found the back of the net eight times in MLS play and also dished out two assists.
