St Louis City 4-0 Inter Miami
The South Florida side fell in lopsided fashion in a friendly that was comprised of four 30-minute periods
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. β Inter Miami squared off against a familiar face on Saturday evening, and that familiar face inflicted some pain on the South Florida side by sparking a preseason rout with a stunning golazo.
Former Inter Miami winger Indiana Vassilev scored a sensational free kick from distance to help pace expansion side St Louis City to a 4-0 pummeling of La Rosanegra in a rainy exhibition played at Florida Blue Training Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Vassilev struck in the 37th minute of the friendly that was comprised of four 30-minute periods, hitting a sizzling set piece from distance into the top right corner past a soaring Drake Callender. Vassilev chose not to celebrate the goal, raising his hand humbly as elated teammates circled around him.
Lucas Bartlett, Samuel Adeniran, and Celio Pompeu were St Louis Cityβs other scorers.
Inter Miami trotted out two largely different lineups (more info below), with the bulk of each group playing 60 minutes. Fourth-period entrant Edison Azcona left the game in the dying minutes after clutching his left hamstring.
The lopsided loss dropped Inter Miami to 1-0-2 in the 2023 preseason after a defeat to Vasco da Gama and win over Florida International University in recent days.
Phil Nevilleβs men next take on the New England Revolution in a friendly on Thursday in Sarasota, Florida.
