Welcome back to Miami Total Futbol!
After a four-month hiatus, Miami Total Futbol has returned to provide you all the latest news and updates on Inter Miami
Hello, everyone. Welcome back to Miami Total Futbol.
First off, I want to apologize for not providing an explanation here as to why the site went on hiatus starting in late February. I had planned to do a post stating the reason — which was that I was joining the South Florida Sun Sentinel newspaper as full-time reporter covering high school sports and as such I could not write elsewhere — but time and life during that hectic period got the better of me.
Speaking of the job, I enjoyed my time working at one of my local papers. My editors, Kathy Laughlin and Steve Svekis, were fantastic bosses who, luckily, are also great people. They were extremely supportive and understanding after the unexpected passing of my father in March, and helped make my experience at the paper a positive and educational one.
Truthfully, working at the Sun Sentinel was a dream come true for me. Seeing my byline in print and online for one of the big local media outlets was something I had always wanted to achieve in my career, and the stability that came with having a full-time gig was mentally refreshing after years of having to worry about where my next paycheck would come from as a freelancer.
Unfortunately, my time with the Sun Sentinel was short-lived. Late last week I was abruptly informed that I was one of 11 layoffs, the latest casualties in an industry that continues to struggle to stay afloat. Just like that, the dream came to an end.
While part of me has been hit hard by the news, another part of me is happy. I now get to return to consistently doing what I am most passionate about and love: covering soccer.
I will be upfront and honest that I do not know how long it will last. I am currently seeking other full-time opportunities in and out of the sport — if you know of any, please send my way! — but for now I plan to resume covering Inter Miami with the same passion and in the all-encompassing way that I had prior to pressing pause on this project.
We will continue to churn out Miami Total Futbol Radio podcasts regularly with the unmatchable hosting team of Steve ‘El Primo’ Brenner, Jose Armando aka ‘Island Jose’, and spicy newcomer Andrea Yanez, who we have yet to give a nickname (all suggestions are welcome).
We are on the lookout for shows sponsors, so if you know of anyone who might be interested please let one of us know. Also, please take a few seconds of your day and subscribe to the show and leave a review on Apple Podcast if you have not already as it helps us out tremendously.
We will also have more regular written news, updates, inside information, and analysis here in addition to all of our usual video coverage over on our YouTube channel. Please subscribe for free if you have not already.
Our Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook pages will also provide regular updates with the idea of keeping you as informed as possible about all the happenings of Inter Miami.
To finish off, I just want to say a big thank you to each and every one of you who have been supportive. Whether it has been with messages in person, online, or just following along with our work, I truly appreciate your part in helping create this little Miami Total Futbol community where we can discuss, dissect, debate, and dialogue over Inter Miami and futbol in general.
Here is to the next chapter. Onwards and upwards!
Sincerely,
Franco Panizo
