Sources: Inter Miami trading Clement Diop to the New England Revolution
The South Florida side is set to receive allocation money in exchange for the goalkeeper
Clement Diop’s first season with Inter Miami has come to an end, with the goalkeeper heading to a fellow Eastern Conference side just as he was preparing to see his former team.
Inter Miami is trading Diop to the New England Revolution, sources have told Miami Total Futbol. The South Florida side will receive allocation money in exchange for the 28-year-old netminder, but the exact amount that the Revolution are giving up is currently unclear.
Diop officially signed with Inter Miami this past January, but had spent time with the team prior to that. He joined the Herons in training last September, as first reported by Miami Total Futbol, after a surprising departure from CF Montreal a month earlier.
Due to COVID regulations in Canada at the time, CF Montreal began the 2021 season training and playing home games at Inter Miami’s facilities. Diop had started in each of the eight games he appeared in for CF Montreal last year before mutually agreeing to part ways with the side.
The experienced shot-stopper began the current campaign as Inter Miami’s starting goalkeeper due to an injury to Nick Marsman, and made three appearances in MLS play under head coach Phil Neville. Diop produced one clean sheet and conceded seven goals in those matches.
Set to play CF Montreal this weekend, Inter Miami now has three goalkeepers on the first-team roster: incumbent Drake Callender, Marsman, and CJ dos Santos.
Inter Miami currently sits in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 29 points from 23 matches. The Revolution are in 11th with 27, but they have played one fewer game.
